Over the past few weeks, New York soul label Big Crown has been dropping tunes from their compilation record Demoitis, a collection of raw demos from their various signed artists. We've already heard Brainstory's 'Breathe (Demo Version)', soulstress Lady Wray's 'Guilty (Demo Version)', and now the record is out in full. Taking the penultimate place on the album is 'Regenerate (Demo Version)' by El Michel's Affair. Fantastically lo-fi drum sounds open the song, accompanied by organ and smooth guitar noodling. The vocals have that distinct distorted tone you can hear when playing an old and dusty record, honouring the sound that lies at the heart of Big Crown. Of Demoitis, Big Crown explain, "Sometimes the demo recording of a song has a vibe that cannot be duplicated. Whether that first recording is a voice memo on your phone or half haphazardly recorded with one mic in the room, there’s an undeniable charm to these recordings". -Ellie Rose-Davies
